OUR HISTORY

Since 2010, FAC has had numerous programs and events. And since 2023, FAC has the large film festival.

In 2010, there was little to no support for Filipino Americans in the entertainment industry. So they decided to support themselves. Educator Ed Mallilin, Music Executive Rex Sampaga, and Filmmaker and Entertainment Attorney Walter Boholst, met with a few entertainment industry professionals at Shamshiri Restaurant and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in Westwood, CA to form what would become known as FilAm Creative.

The group evolved from the all-industry Filipino American Network of Los Angeles that was founded in 2001 by Arnold Noche, Julie Orqueza, Moonie Lantion and others. By 2010 there were so many entertainment professionals in FAN LA that they decided to create specific entertainment industry programming. That March night in Westwood, CA, the FAN LA-Entertainment Division was born.

After the events were wildly successful, the group decided to form an organization specifically serving the Filipino American entertainment community. In December 2010, at Bossa Nova, Westwood, CA, the name FilAm Creative was chosen.

Since then, the now 501c3 non-profit organization has produced over 300+ events and projects. FilAm Creative’s extended family now stretches from Los Angeles to across the globe including Philippine filmmakers, Hollywood studios, and famous celebrities.

FilAm Creative’s motto to “Unify. Create. Educate. Elevate.” allows it to empower its community throughout the entire creative life cycle. FilAm Creative accomplishes its mission through year-round projects, educational initiatives, networking events, and also since 2023 its successful large annual multi-day FilAm Creative Film Festival.
